Barcodes

Do I have to print my own barcodes?

You have the option of having FairScan print your barcodes for you, or have FairScan set you up with the required software/hardware to print your own barcodes.

What is required to print my own barcodes?

There are two options available.  You can purchase through FairScan a label printer, which can print your barcodes onto a reel of label stickers.  The cost of a label printer starts at $300.  Alternatively you can purchase barcode printing software through FairScan which allows you to print barcodes onto A4 sheets with your standard printer.  This software is priced from $500.

What size stickers can I get for my barcodes?

If using a label printer you can use 25mm x 25mm or 25mm x 12mm, whilst using an A4 you may be able to request the required size.

Does every item I stock have to have its own barcode?

No.  Every item that you stock doesn’t have to have a barcode, just the ones that you have on display.  Barcoding is a simple process and is something that shouldn’t be feared.

What barcode formats are supported?

The Symbol handhelds support all major barcode formats.  Example include: Interleaved 2 of 5, EAN13, EAN8, CODE128, CODE93, CODE39 and ISBT128

Support

What support will be available to Trade Fairs?

A representative from FairScan will be attending all Gift Trade Fairs and will be in attendance at most Toy and Furniture Fairs in Melbourne & Sydney.

Will I get a manual on how to operate the system?

The FairScan system is provided with a detailed manual with screen shots and diagrams.  Also supplied is a computer based manual that will provide interactive support for use with the application.

Can FairScan help in purchasing hardware such as printers and laptops?

FairScan will help you with any additional hardware purchases that you require such as printers and laptops.  We can provide suggestions on what hardware is suitable or we can purchase the hardware for you at the lowest price available within Australia.

Can I get additional training?

Yes.  Four hours of training is included standard with the purchase of the FairScan system.  Sometimes if there is a large number of sales staff, then more than four hours will be required.  The current rate for additional training is $40 per hour.

Software

Will I be entitled to upgrades in the future?

At this stage we are planning to update and upgrade the system twice a year.  Improvements will be based on customer feedback, requirements and suggestions.  There will be an upgrade fee charged if you wish to update, and this figure will be based on the complexity of the improvements made.  You are under no obligation to accept any update.

Do I need any additional software on my computer?

No.  As long as you are running a PC computer running any version of Windows, then you don’t require any additional software.  Upon installation of the system, all the required run-time files will be installed on your computer.

Do I have to own a copy of the Application Software?

No.  You don’t have to run a copy of the application software on-site.  At Trade Fairs there will be a central computer run by FairScan which will enable you to download and print your orders at any stage.  This option is more suited to the small business who can’t afford there own copy of the application software or who is looking to trial the system before purchasing a license.  The disadvantage of not having your own copy of the application software is that you can’t print orders straight away.

What happens if I format my computer and need to reload the application?

You are given a CD of the FairScan application which will enable you to re-install the application when required.  The manual will provide detailed step by step information on how to re-install and re-configure the system.

Can I import orders into my Accounting system?

If your Accounting system has the feature to import orders (as most do these days) then yes.  The FairScan system can be configured to generate files in the required format that is requested from your accounting system.  In most cases this will incur an additional fee.  Unfortunately some systems are quite complicated and may carry an additional fee of approx $1000.  The majority of systems should fall below this figure.

Can I use the system in my showroom?

Yes.  There is no real difference between using the system in a Trade Fair environment and using it in your show room.

Hardware

What will happen if I drop a handheld onto the ground?

The SPT1800 handhelds are designed to withstand a drop onto concrete from 1.5m so there shouldn’t be any problem.  From experience the SPT1550 can be dropped without any major damage occurring.  This is something that I wouldn’t recommend of course.  There are protective rubber cases available for both units that serve as extra protection.

Can I rent the hardware?

Yes.  Renting terms are available on all of our hardware.  The price of renting a unit will depend on how many you require, and how many times during the year you will require them.

Can I buy some handhelds and rent more at busy fairs?

Yes.  You are most welcome to have a mix of your own handhelds and some rental ones for the busier periods.

How often is hardware updated?

Symbol tends to update their handhelds about once every 2-3 years.  When updating Symbol put faster processors and more memory in the units, therefore still producing accessories that are compatible with previous models.

What happens if I want to upgrade my hardware?

If you wish to upgrade your hardware at any stage, then FairScan will be happy to purchase your handhelds and accessories at a negotiated price.  This can be used as credit on your next purchase of hardware, or can be taken as cash if you are getting out of the business.

Which handheld is better?

The SPT1800 is clearly a better unit.  There are a much greater amount of accessories available for the SPT1800 as well.  The SPT1800 has more memory and a faster processor than the SPT1550, but of course is also more expensive.
If you plan to use the handhelds only in a Trade Fair environment, then I recommend the SPT1550 as they are more than adequate for that task.
